![]() Even before its incorporation under British rule in 1753, the town had been home to Acadians and to German, Swiss and French colonists. The indomitable spirit and the warmth of Lunenburgers speak to their varied and rich cultural heritage. The walls that aren’t occupied by windows have slate blackboards that run from wall to wall. Each classroom has two sets of large windows that overlook the Town of Lunenburg and the back harbour. This building, that is rich in history, with modern facilities, is considered one of the finest school buildings in the Maritime Provinces. The unusual architectural style, enhanced by an abundance of decorative Victorian designs, sometimes referred to by the term “Gingerbread”, creates a unique structure greatly admired by visitors to the town. The Lunenburg Academy is an architectural masterpiece and is a landmark of the Town of Lunenburg. Completed in 1895, the “Castle on the Hill” is excellent company for the more than 70 fully restored and picturesque heritage buildings that lie below.Ĭlass Afloat occupies the third floor of this three-story school.
